Dr. Andriole is an Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and was recently named the Director of Research Strategy and Operations at the MGH & BWH Center for Clinical Data Science (CCDS) (www.ccds.io). She studied Biomedical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering and Medicine at Duke University and Yale University, respectively, and did postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California at Los Angeles, and the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) Departments of Radiology. At UCSF, Dr. Andriole was instrumental in designing, building and implementing picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) before they became commercial entities. Her research has involved technical as well as clinically-relevant developments in medical informatics, PACS, digital radiography, image processing and analysis, business analytics, and machine learning. Dr. Andriole has developed and taught several formal courses, directed fellowships in biomedical imaging and informatics, and mentored more than 70 trainees. She has served in multiple leadership roles for the Society of Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM), currently serves on the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Radiology Informatics Committee and the RSNA Machine Learning Steering Committee, and is the Senior Scientist for Education at the American College of Radiology (ACR) Data Science Institute. She is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Digital Imaging and the Journal of Medical Imaging. Dr. Andriole has been elected a member of the Academy of Harvard Medical School, inducted into the College of SIIM Fellows, and named Second Vice President of the RSNA.

Mark Stefik is a research fellow at PARC and currently manages the Human Machine Collaboration area. He is also principal investigator for PARC’s DARPA-funded XAI project, COGLE. The name COGLE stands for COmmon Ground Learning and Explanation. COGLE’s autonomous agents fly UASs in a simulated world to perform rescue and delivery missions. The agents learn from their performance using reinforcement learning and can explain their activities using common ground terminology. A goal of the project is to enable people and machines to work and learn collaboratively drawing on their mutual strengths. Previously Mark led the CitySight® project, which built an analytics and workflow recommendation system for urban traffic control and parking organizations. The CitySight project did the ethnography and technical research and built a proof-of-concept demonstration system. When this was well received by Xerox customers, the project morphed. Working with a Xerox engineering team, Xerox marketing and sales, and an external software company, it developed and launched the CitySight product in 2016. The CitySight product now serves several major U.S. cities and is offered and operated by Conduent. Previous projects on personalized news, sense making systems, hardware and software for collaboration in electronic meetings, object-oriented programming systems, and knowledge systems. Mark contributed to several PARC spinouts. His digital property rights research laid the technical foundations for secure distribution for digital media including music, movies, books, and other things. Mark has over 100 patents and 200 publications. He has authored five books, including Breakthrough: Stories and Strategies for Radical Innovation from The MIT Press. His Ph.D. work at Stanford University was on experiment planning in molecular genetics.
